JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first day of the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Conference Championships took place on Thursday at North Florida for Eastern Kentucky University's track and field teams.
Senda Garma got things going for the Colonels, claiming silver in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 52.76m (173' 1") in the finals for EKU's first medal of the championships.
Halley Angel also scored team points for EKU as she finished in sixth place with a mark of 47.29m (155' 2").
JJ Love picked up two points for the men's team in the hammer throw after finishing seventh with a throw of 49.12m (161' 2").
In the women's 200m prelims,
Mallory Hodge qualified for the finals with the fifth fastest time of the two heats at 24.14 seconds, a new personal best.
On the men's side,
Baker Green qualified for the finals in the 200m with a time of 21.8 seconds.
The night ended with the women's and men's 10,000m with
Lucy Thornton coming in seventh for the women, earning two team points with a time of 38:09.01.
The men earned 13 team points in the men's 10,000m as
Griffin Staude led the way with a fourth-place finish in a time of 30:27.34.
Staude was followed by teammates
German Vega (30:49.94) in fifth,
James Ndayishimiye (30:58.03) in sixth, and
Ty Blair (31:05.10) in eighth.
The ASUN Outdoor Championships continue tomorrow for the Colonels, beginning at 2 p.m. with the women's discus.
