JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's track and field teams closed out the second day of competition at the ASUN Outdoor Conference Championships on Friday in Jacksonville, Florida.
Karin Gosek and
Khadija Ennasri highlighted the day in the women's 3000m steeplechase as the duo claimed first and second with Gosek running a historic time of 10:14.54, the fifth fastest time in ASUN Championship history.
Ennasri followed closely behind at 10:17.96, as the pair finished over 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Also making history was
Mallory Hodge as the junior ran a time of 11.71 in the women's 100m dash prelims, a personal best and the fifth fastest time in program history. The historic time sees the Covington, Georgia native qualify for tomorrow's 100m finals.
Making the podium for the men was
Keeton Thornsberry in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:01.87 in third place, followed by teammate
Tomas Vega in fourth at 9:02.88 as the duo earned 11 points for the Colonels.
In the men's 400m dash prelim,
Brandon Snell ran a personal best time of 49.06 to qualify for the event's final tomorrow.
Three Colonels, in
Bahiya El Arfaoui, Irene Rubio-Miralles, and
Bryce Alan Thornsbury, advanced to the women's 800m final on Saturday, with
Aniol Borras making it through on the men's side.
In the field,
Lexi Lawless and
Kristan Simmons started the day by claiming fifth and sixth in the women's discus with throws of 42.47m (139'-4") and 41.67m (136'-8") respectively.
On the men's side, Matt See took fifth in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.28m (50'-1.75").
The Colonels will wrap up the championships tomorrow, beginning with the men's discus at 3 p.m.
