EKU Men’s Golf Signs Bulgarian Hristo Yanakiev

RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU Head Men's Golf Coach Pat Stephens has announced the signing of Hristo Yanakiev on Wednesday morning.

A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Yanakiev comes to Richmond after spending his freshman season at the University of Kansas.

" We are so excited to have Hristo as a new member of the EKU Men's Golf program," said Stephens. "Hristo has compiled an impressive amateur record and has won and played internationally.  Coach Combs and I were impressed with Hristo from the moment we saw his swing video and accomplishments.  Histro possesses a sound golf game that will have an immediate impact on our program this fall.  He is a great student and has a passion for the game of golf, and wants to play at the next level.  We are looking forward to Hristo arriving on campus in the fall, representing EKU Men's Golf on and off the golf course.
Please welcome Hristo Yanakiev!"

Before joining the Jayhawks, Yanakeiv put together an impressive amateur record in Europe claiming the Bulgarian State Championship four years in a row (2020-2023), winning the Bulgarian Amateur Open Championship in 2022 and 2023, the Bulgarian Junior Open Championship in 2022, Romanian Amateur Open in 2021 and 2022, and the Macedonian Amateur Open in 2022.

A business major, he is the son of father Yanaki and mother, Radka with a younger brother Yordan who also plays golf.
