Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Despite registering only two hits through the first seven innings and trailing 5-0, Eastern Kentucky University scored nine runs in the eighth to beat Central Arkansas, 9-5, and clinch the Atlantic Sun Conference series on Sunday at Earle Combs Stadium.

Mauri Bejarano started the eight with a double down the left field line.  After Tait Nunnally was hit by a pitch, the Colonels scored their first two runs of the game on a double down the left field line by Boone Shevey.  After a pitching change, AJ Groeneveld made it 5-3 with an RBI single to right.

Greg Caban walked before UCA got a fly ball for the first out of the inning.  Julius Scearce drew a walk to load the bases.  After another pitching change by the Bears, Colby Ott tied the game with a 2-run double into left center.

Pinch hitting, Silas Shaffer tripled over the head of the center fielder to give EKU a 7-5 lead.  Bejarano added a sacrifice fly and Nunnally hit a solo home run, in their second at bats of the inning, to complete the 9-run frame.

Burkley Bounds retired the side in order in the top of the ninth inning on nine pitches.  The freshman pitched the final 5 2/3 innings of the game without allowing a run.  He gave up four hits and struck out five, including the final batter of the game.
