Women’s Soccer Plays USC Upstate, ETSU This Week in Lexington

EKU Has Won Six Straight Home Games Since Last Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team will look to bounce back this week, hosting South Carolina Upstate and East Tennessee State at Lexington Sporting Club's Field No. 3.

Thursday's match against USC Upstate is set for 4 p.m. ET, while Sunday's contest against ETSU will kick off at 1 p.m. in its normal time slot. Both matches offer free admission to the venue and for fans unable to attend, will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Wes Chandler on the call.

As a reminder, pets are not permitted at the complex, and chewing gum and tobacco products are also prohibited. All spectators must remain outside the fence surrounding the playing area. A full list of complex rules are available online here and facility details here.

EKU (1-1) is coming off a 9-0 loss at now No. 5-ranked Tennessee on Sunday in Knoxville. The Colonels failed to register a shot in the match, a stark contrast to their 3-1 season-opening win over Toledo.

The Colonels will also be looking to defend their six-match home winning streak dating back to September of last year.

Through two matches, sophomore forward and Preseason All-ASUN selection Ella Grode leads the Colonels with two goals on three shot attempts. Her brace against Toledo made her the 20th player in program history to score two goals in a match.

With last week's results, Grode has eight career goals, moving her to 10th in school history. As of Wednesday, the Colonels rank in the top 100 nationally in shot percentage, assists per game, total assists, goals, and points.

Scouting USC Upstate
USC Upstate (1-1) opened the season with a 1-0 win at Wofford before falling 3-0 at Davidson. The Spartans are led by senior forward Dara Russo, who has 30 career goals. The Miamisburg, Ohio native has recorded at least one shot in every match this season.

Series History
Thursday will be the first meeting between EKU and USC Upstate.

Scouting ETSU
ETSU (1-0-1) collected points in both matches last week, defeating North Alabama 1-0 on the road and drawing 1-1 with UAB at home. The Buccaneers face Kentucky on Thursday and will remain in the city for the Sunday tilt.

Junior forward Reagan Fitzgerald has scored in both matches and leads ETSU with seven shots, including five on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Addison Yelton has faced 11 total shots this season, allowing just one goal.

Series History
Sunday marks the fifth meeting between EKU and ETSU since 2015. The series is tied 2-2 with an ETSU win last season in Johnson City, 1-0.
