LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw against Duquesne on Sunday afternoon at Lexington Sporting Club.
Senior midfielder
Maddy Murphy found the net in the 62nd minute, and sophomore forward
Ella Grode delivered the equalizer in the 73rd.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jordan LeVasseur posted 18 saves on 39 shots faced. Her total ranks as the second-most in a single game in program history and the most by an EKU keeper since 2007.
EKU (5-1-2) closes non-conference play unbeaten against mid-major opponents, with its only loss coming to current No. 1 Tennessee. The Colonels will enter Atlantic Sun Conference play on an overall six-match unbeaten streak and 10-match unbeaten streak at home.
With Thursday's draw, the Colonels tallied 17 points in non-conference action, the most in program history, and tied the school record with five non-conference victories.
Duquesne (5-2-1) struck first with goals from Brianna Moore in the 19th minute and Mackenzie Muir in the 26th. Moore led the team with nine shot attempts while Muir and Maya Matesa each attempted seven.
The Dukes finished the match with 39 total shots, 20 of those being on frame.
EKU took advantage of defensive lapses in the second half. Murphy scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder
Avery May in the 62nd, and Grode buried the equalizer 11 minutes later off a pass from sophomore forward
Ana Manning inside the box.
With Sunday's goal, Grode is up to a team-leading six goals this season and has netted at least one goal in three of her last four games. As of Sunday, the Avon Lake, Ohio product leads the ASUN Conference in goals and points.
EKU will open league play on Thursday traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to face Lipscomb. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
