Women’s Soccer Defeats Austin Peay 1-0 on Sunday

Avery May Scored in First Half Giving EKU the Advantage

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore midfielder Avery May scored in the 36th minute to lift the Eastern Kentucky University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over rival Austin Peay on Sunday at Morgan Bros. Soccer Field.

For EKU (6-2-2, 1-1-0 ASUN) the victory marked the team's first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season and its fourth straight over the Governors dating back to 2021. Three of those victories have been shutout victories for the Colonels.

May, a transfer from Dayton and native of Goshen, Ohio, broke through midway through the first half when she redirected a cross from Peyton Smith with the outside of her foot to the far post.

The goal was May's fourth of her career, and the assist was Smith's second of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan LeVasseur anchored the defense, collecting her fourth win of the season with seven saves on 12 shots faced. The Michigan native has stopped 54 shots this year with an 86 percent save rate.

The Colonels tallied 19 shots on the day, led by a career-high six from sophomore forward Ana Manning and four from May.

EKU has recorded double figure shot totals in eight games this season and in its last four matches.

Austin Peay (0-7-3, 0-2-0 ASUN) remains winless on the year despite three shot attempts from Ellie Dreas, including two on target.

After May's goal in the 36th minute, both teams traded chances throughout the remainder of the contest, but EKU held on for the 1-0 decision. LeVasseur halted the Govs' pressure late in the match, saving a shot in the 82nd minute that would have given the home team the equalizer.

EKU returns home to welcome Central Arkansas on Thursday afternoon at the EKU Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
