Women’s Basketball Blasts Bellarmine on the Road, 90-46

Ndukwe Posts Third Straight 20-Point Game Leading All Scorers with 23 Points

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team delivered a wire-to-wire decisive performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past Bellarmine 90-46 to remain unbeaten in Atlantic Sun Conference play inside Historic Knights Hall.

With the victory, EKU improved to 15-4 overall and 6-0 in ASUN action. The Colonels are the league's lone remaining undefeated team after three weeks of conference play and have now won eight straight games dating back to Dec. 19.

EKU is off to its best conference start since the 2002-03 season, when the Colonels opened league play with a similar 6-0 mark. With one more conference victory, EKU would equal its best start to conference play in school history.

Senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including three 3-pointers. The Inkster, Michigan, native recorded her third consecutive 20-point performance and ranks second in the ASUN at 18.0 points per game since conference play began on New Year's Day.

Freshman guard Kenleigh Woods added a career-high 20 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the field with two 3-pointers. The Ashland, Kentucky, native also chipped in five rebounds and two assists.

EKU placed four players in double figures. Sophomore forward Jasmine Jordan scored a season- and NCAA-high 15 points, knocking down three 3-pointers while pulling down nine rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Sophomore guard Liz Freihofer rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, her 17th game this year with 10 or more points.

Senior forward Ella Bradley led the Colonels on the glass with nine rebounds, while senior guard Zyniah Thomas dished out a season-high five assists to pace all players.

As a team, EKU shot 50 percent (34-for-68) from the floor, 37 percent (11-for-30) from beyond the arc, and 92 percent (11-for-12) from the free-throw line. The Colonels held a 47-26 advantage on the boards, scored 27 points off transition opportunities, recorded 20 assists on 34 made baskets, and forced Bellarmine into 15 turnovers.

Bellarmine (2-17, 0-6 ASUN) competed with just seven available players in Saturday's game, suffering its 14th-straight loss to remain in last place in the league standings.

EKU set the tone early with defensive pressure, limiting the Knights to single digits in the opening quarter while building a 10-point, 19-9 lead. Ndukwe scored eight points in the first, attacking the paint and knocking down two early 3-pointers.

The Colonels continued to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring Bellarmine 25-15 to take a 44-24 lead into halftime. Woods provided a spark offensively, while Jordan stretched the lead by connecting on three triples during the period.

EKU delivered its most dominant stretch coming out of the break, overwhelming the Knights 26-8 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 70-32. With the margin surpassing 30 points, the Colonels were able to use their depth while maintaining offensive efficiency.

With the outcome decided, EKU closed the game with a balanced fourth quarter, outscoring Bellarmine 20-14. Thomas recorded three assists in the period as the Colonels secured the 44-point, 90-46 victory.

EKU returns home next week to begin a two-game homestand, hosting Jacksonville on Thursday inside Baptist Health Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, fans can purchase tickets online here.
