JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis freshman
Marek Nano was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting 3-1 singles record to open the 2026 spring season.
The honor marks the first weekly award of Nano's career and the third ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week recognition earned by the Colonels over the last two seasons.
Nano won three of his four singles matches while adding a doubles victory during the opening week. Competing exclusively from the No. 2 singles position, the Slovakia native made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut.
Nano opened his EKU career with a comeback victory over ETSU's Martin Vergara, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, a win that carried the highest UTR rating (12.91) of any ASUN singles victory during the week. He followed with two additional comeback wins, defeating Butler's Nicolas Arts, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, and IU Indianapolis' Konner Gunwall, 4-6, 7-6, 10-5.
In doubles play, Nano teamed for a 6-3 victory on court three against ETSU's Arenui Luethi and James Sim. Two other doubles matches later in the week went unfinished, including a contest against Louisville's pairing of Pedro Cressoni and Russell Lokko.
Nano and the Colonels return to action on Friday, Jan. 23, traveling to face Conference USA opponent Middle Tennessee. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
