RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's tennis program opened a four-match homestand with a 6-1 win over Northern Kentucky and 4-3 victory over UNC Asheville on Friday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
With the wins, EKU moves to 4-6 on the season and 3-3 in home matches.
The Colonels had stellar play on the doubles front, claiming the crucial point in both matches over NKU and UNCA.
In singles, EKU won on 8-of-12 courts with seniors
Masha Fedenko and
Marilou Cote each going 2-0 from the team's two and three courts.
Fedenko won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 over NKU's Sydney Zakic and finished the day with a three-set 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Asheville's Isabella Moss. The Dnipro, Ukraine, product advanced to 4-5 on the season and is now 4-4 when playing on court two.
Cote dominated in her match over NKU's Alyssa Cameron winning 6-2, 6-0 and went on to win in three sets over Ashville's Avery Sager 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The Quebec native also sports a 4-5 record this season and is now a perfect 2-0 from spot three.
Sophomore
Ceylin Ipek also picked up a key win on Friday being elevated to EKU's top court due to injuries. The Izmir, Turkey, native won the first match of her career on court one to open the day against Northern Kentucky's Darya Gneidina in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
EKU returns to action on Sunday with another doubleheader against in-state rival Western Kentucky and Bowling Green, starting at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, respectively. EKU's match against WKU will be streamed live on ESPN+.
