RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's baseball team suffered a 5-2 defeat to Austin Peay in the Atlantic Sun Conference series opener on Thursday at Earle Combs Stadium.

APSU took the lead with two runs in the third. Zion Taylor had a run scoring single up the middle, but was caught stealing. The bases were empty when Ray Velazquez hit a home run over the wall in right to make it 2-0.

The Colonels answered with a 2-run inning of their own in the fourth.Â
Khaleel Pratt hit his fifth homer of the season, a solo shot over the wall in right field.Â
Jackson Cauthron followed with a triple and then scored on a ground ball to tie the game.

The stretch of 2-run innings continued in the fifth when the Governors plated another pair. Velazquez had a sacrifice fly before an RBI triple from Ty Wisdom made it 4-2.

APSU got another home run from Cole Johnson to start the sixth to push the margin to three.

Pratt went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and an RBI.Â
Pedro Moreno was 2-for-4.Â
Hayden Collins gave the Colonels (8-22, 3-7 ASUN) three innings of scoreless relief. He did not allow a hit, walked two and struck out two.

Johnson had a 2-for-4 game with a run and an RBI for Austin Peay (15-15, 6-4 ASUN). Velazquez went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and two driven in.
