JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky University senior
Fernando Bulnes was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, after posting two individual victories against No. 14 Illinois last week.
The honor marks the third ASUN Player of the Week selection for EKU this season and the second of Bulnes' career, both coming during the 2026 campaign.
A native of Badajoz, Spain, Bulnes went undefeated across three matches last week against Southern Indiana, Bellarmine, and No. 14 Illinois. He improved his team-best singles record to 10-7 on the season.
Bulnes opened the week with a straight set victory over Bellarmine's Ryan Perkins, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 3 singles position.
He followed that performance with another straight set win against Illinois' Hayden Jones, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Bulnes also contributed a doubles victory in the match, teaming up for a 6-4 win over Illinois' Jeremy Zhang and Adam Jilly at the No. 3 doubles spot.
A Second Team All-ASUN selection last season, Bulnes has totaled 18 combined singles and doubles victories this year and enters the final week of the regular season on a two-match winning streak.
EKU will close the regular season on Friday at conference opponent Lipscomb in Nashville. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET.
After Lipscomb on Friday, the Colonels will shift their attention to the 2026 ASUN Men's Tennis Tournament from April 14-18 in Fort Myers, Florida, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast.
