Volleyball Falls to Nevada

Colonels fall to Wolfpack 3-0

Liz Guard led the Colonels
Reno, Nev. – Junior Kelly Jennings tallied a double-double but the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team (2-2) dropped its second consecutive game on day two of the Sands Regency/SBC Tournament to host Nevada by scores of 30-21, 30-18, and 30-27.

Jennings had 25 assists and 12 digs, and senior Liz Guard had 10 kills for Colonels, who were only able to manage an attack percentage of .034. Junior Jessica Sabath led EKU in digs, with 12.

With game one tied at seven Nevada scored the next three points and never looked back in winning 30-21. The Pack hit .375 and held EKU to a .081 attack percentage.

In game two Nevada quickly jumped out to 10-point lead at 15-5 and won easily 30-18. The Wolf Pack hit well at .275 while the Colonel's hit minus .070.

EKU led most of game three before the Pack caught them at 15-15. Nevada went on to take the third game 30-27 and sweep the Colonels 3-0 in the match. The Wolf Pack hit just .154 but despite EKU having its best hitting game in the match could manage just a .105 attack percentage.

Salaia Salave `a led the Pack with 18 kills while outside hitter Carly Sorensen reached double digits for the third time this season finishing with 10 kills. Setter Tristin Johnson dished out a match high 38 assists. Senior libero Christine Harms tallied 16 digs and moved past 1,000 for her career. Her career total of 1,005 digs ranks sixth all-time at Nevada.

Nevada hit .256 in the match compared to EKU's .034 attack percentage. Nevada won the blocking battle 7.5 to 5.0. Sophomore Karly Sipherd led the team with four blocks.

he Colonels takes on 18th ranked San Diego tonight in the final match of the tournament. UCLA defeated San Diego 3-1 in the first match on Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the weekend.
