KENT, Ohio – Sophomore Amy Arlinghaus' match-high 15 kills and .464 attack percentage led the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team past Syracuse 3-0 in its first match of the Kent State Invitational. The Colonels swept the Orange 30-24, 30-22 and 30-27.
Senior Liz Guard reached double-digit kills for the fifth time in six matches with 14. Junior Jessica Sabath led three Colonels who reached double digits in digs with a match-high 15. Sophomore Brittany Nobilio followed with 14 while junior setter Kelly Jennings notched her second double-double of the season with 31 assists and 10 digs.
After holding Syracuse (4-2) to a .059 hitting percentage in game one, EKU (3-3) used an impressive .406 hitting percentage to capture game two by eight points. The hard-fought, three-point victory in the third game snapped the Colonels' three match losing skid.
EKU returns to action tonight at 7:30 p.m. against host Kent State.
