JONESBORO, Ark. – Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team moved from a tie for ninth to second place after firing the best score of the final round at the Lady Indian Classic hosted by Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. The event was shortened to two rounds after rain interrupted play yesterday. Junior Kelli Warner led the Colonels with a second place finish.
The event was held at the par-71, 5,926-yard Jonesboro Country Club.
Central Arkansas, the wire-to-wire leader, posted the best round of the tournament with a 295 in the opening round and followed it with a 308 to finish 35-over-par.
After round one finished this morning, Eastern Kentucky was tied for ninth, 22 shots behind the leader. A 303 in the second round propelled the Colonels into second place where they finished 17 shots behind Central Arkansas and 52-over-par.
Murray State (+57) was third followed by McLennan Community College (+62) and Jackson State (+65) in fifth. Austin Peay (+69) tied for eighth.
Warner followed a first round three-over 74 with another 74 in round two. She finished with a six-over-par 148.
Leslie Booth and Melissa Rosloniec helped EKU move up the leader board by drastically improving their second round scores. Booth shaved six shots off her second round score, improving from an 81 to a 75. She finished tied for 21st. Rosloniec improved by seven shots, going from a first round 83 to a second round 76. She placed in a tie for 34th.
Jena Spenske fired rounds of 79 and 78 and finished tied for 25th. Gabrielle Andersson shot back-to-back 83s and tied for 57th.
Eastern Kentucky will return to action on October 22 when the team participates in the F&M Bank Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn.
