LOVELAND, Ohio – Eastern Kentucky’s men’s golf team used a 10-under second round to move from a tie for first to the top of the leader board by itself with 18 holes remaining at the Xavier Invitational. Jesse Massie is tied for second after back-to-back rounds of five-under 67.
With a team total of 282 at the conclusion of the first round, Eastern Kentucky was tied for first with Marquette. Marquette’s two-under 286 second round dropped the Golden Eagles to third. EKU’s 10-under 278 gave it sole possession of first place. Campbell moved from a tie for eighth to second place with a tournament best 13-under 275.
Massie is one of three Colonels in the top-20 with two-round totals under par. His two round total of 134, 10 shots under par, is tied with Nathan Wine of Toledo and two shots behind Mike Van Sickle of Marquette.
Freshman
Brian Fister followed an even-par 72 with a four under 68 and is tied for 13th.
Trey Bowling (141) is tied for 18th at three under.
The Xavier Invitational is being contested at the Oasis Golf Club, a par-72, 6,921-yard course in Loveland, Ohio. The third round of the 54-hole event will be held on Tuesday.
