CITRUS SPRINGS, FL -- Florida Atlantic carded a tournament-best 299 in Friday’s final round to capture the 2008 EKU El Diablo Intercollegiate championship, played at the par-72 El Diablo Golf and Country Club. Florida Gulf Coast and host Eastern Kentucky University rounded out the top three team positions.

Florida Atlantic’s Phol-uayporn saved the best for last in securing the individual medal. She followed a 73 in the first and second rounds with a tournament-low 71 on Friday to finished with a 217, seven shots better than second-place Heather Hagerman from Florida Golf Coast. The Colonels were led by Melissa Rosloniec who tied for eighth with a 236 (78-75-83).

Hosting the Florida event for the first time, EKU shot a 969 (314-326-329). In addition to Rosloniec’s top-10 finish, Gabrielle Anderson (t-14th), Leslie Booth (t-20th), Kelli Warner (27th) and Charlotte Lundell (t-34th) also competed for the Colonels. Jena Spenske, playing as an individual, tied for 29th.

EKU’s women’s golf team returns to the links on March 22-23 at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary, in Williamsburg, Va.
