RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University baseball player Josh Anderson is making the most of his opportunities with the Atlanta Braves since being called up from Triple-A last weekend. The outfielder from Eubank, Ky. is currently batting .318 with seven runs scored, an RBI and a triple. He has also notched two stolen bases. Used primarily as pinch hitter earlier last week, the Braves incorporated Anderson into the starting lineup this weekend against the Phillies, even utilizing him as their leadoff hitter on Sunday.
Before being traded to the Braves in the fall, Anderson was with the Houston Astros organization. He was called up to the Astros in the waning days of the 2007 season, and promptly made an impression, breaking a 42-year old team record for rookies by reaching base six times in one game.
As a Colonel, Anderson led Eastern to a runner-up finish in the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in his final season, earning conference Player of the Year honors and becoming the school’s first-ever Louisville Slugger First Team All-American after leading the nation with 57 steals.
