RICHMOND, Ky. – For the first time since 1995, Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State will meet on the football field. This will be the 69th meeting between the former OVC rivals. Game time Saturday night at Roy Kidd Stadium is 6 p.m.
Eastern and Morehead first met back in 1924. Both teams were original members of the OVC when the league formed in 1948. After the 1995 season, Morehead State left the OVC and later joined the Pioneer Football League, an NCAA Division I FCS non-scholarship conference. EKU and Morehead State met 31 times in the regular season finale when both schools were in the OVC.
Eastern Kentucky (0-2) is still searching for its first win after a tough loss to Western Kentucky last Saturday. Senior quarterback
Allan Holland moved into EKU’s top-10 career passing list with 228 yards passing against the Hilltoppers. Other highlights from the WKU contest include senior field goal kicker
Taylor Long booting a career-best 46-yard field goal and senior tight end
Stephen Sizemore hauling in a personal-high eight receptions.
Morehead State (1-1) opened the year with a convincing 49-6 win over Southern Virginia, but fell at Robert Morris last weekend.
Before Saturday’s game, the Eastern Kentucky University Athletics Department will induct nine new members into the EKU Athletics Hall of Fame including three former football players – offensive lineman John Jackson (1984-87), running back Markus Thomas (1989-92) and offensive lineman Fred Troike (1966-68).
