CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Two struggling teams meet on the hardwood Monday night when the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team takes on host Austin Peay. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m.
Since winning six of seven games, the Colonels (7-6, 1-2 OVC) have suddenly lost three straight tilts. Senior
Mike Rose has provided plenty of scoring for EKU, but other players are needed to step up due to the injury to Eastern’s second leading scorer, junior
Papa Oppong. Rose ranks second in the OVC in scoring (20.4 ppg) and three-point shooting (48.9 percent). The last Colonel to average 20 points per game was Antonio Parris is 1986-87 (20.5 ppg).
Austin Peay (6-7, 2-1) is just 2-3 at home after dropping an 84-74 decision to Morehead State on Saturday. The Governors have lost five of six games overall. Senior Drake Reed leads the team in scoring (19.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg). Junior Wes Channels scored 30 points against Morehead State and is averaging more than 20 ppg in OVC contests.
The Governors swept all three meetings last year and lead the all-time series, 55-45. EKU has won just once in Clarksville over the last 13 seasons (1-14).
Following the Austin Peay game, Eastern Kentucky returns home to face Jacksonville State on Thursday, Jan. 8.
