RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team begins the 2009-10 regular season Saturday night with a home game against West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip time is slated for 8 p.m.
Eastern Kentucky has won 11 consecutive home openers dating back to the 1997-98 season when Berea College upended the Colonels on Nov. 18, 1997, 94-88. EKU went 12-2 in McBrayer Arena last year, marking the eighth straight year the Colonels have notched a winning home record.
This is the fifth meeting between the two schools. Eastern leads the all-time series by a count of 3-1 and has won three in a row against the Bobcats. In the most recent meeting, junior
Josh Daniel chipped in with 14 points, one shy of his career high, as the Colonels prevailed on Nov. 10, 2007, 78-45.
Following the contest against West Virginia Wesleyan, the Colonels begin play in the 2009 O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic on Nov. 19 at Big East foe Pittsburgh.

-- As a team in 2008-09, the Colonels averaged 10.3 three-pointers made per game which ranked second nationally. Eastern Kentucky also finished among the top-10 nationally in three-point field goal percentage (40.1 percent – ninth) and fewest turnovers per game (10.9 – seventh).

Spencer Perrin and freshman
Willie Cruz are the only additions to the roster this year. Perrin played his first two years of college basketball at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Ill. Cruz averaged 20 ppg and nine rpg as a senior prepster at L’Anse Creuse High in Detroit, Mich.
