Two Colonels Earn Postseason All-OVC Honors

Two Eastern Kentucky volleyball players earned postseason honors from the Ohio Valley Conference on Wednesday. Juniors Lauren Snyder and Abby O'Connor were both selected second team All-OVC. Snyder also earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team.

Snyder leads the team with 326 kills and is sixth in the conference with an average of 3.23 kills per set. She is tied for the team lead with 25 aces, averages 2.19 digs per set and has 28 blocks.

The Ft. Mitchell, Ky., native posted 10 or more kills 18 times and had 20-plus kills four times. In addition, she contributed 10 or more digs in a match 10 times over the course of the season. Snyder’s best game came on Oct. 2 at home against Southeast Missouri. She finished the 3-2 Colonel win with 30 kills, a .446 attack percentage, 11 digs and three aces. She served up a season-high five aces on Nov. 10 at Tennessee State.

Snyder earned OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5 after averaging 5.67 kills per set in a pair of Colonel wins.

O’Connor leads the team and the conference with an average of 5.54 digs per set. She ranks eighth in the nation in the same category. The Maineville, Ohio native recorded double-digit dig performances in 26 of EKU’s 28 matches. She finished with 20 or more digs 15 times and posted 30-plus digs on three occasions.

On Sept. 18 at UT Martin, O’Connor finished with 31 digs. At home against Southeast Missouri on Oct. 2, she tied her career high with 32 digs. The next day in a 3-1 victory over Eastern Illinois, O’Connor set a new career-best with 36 digs.

O’Connor was recognized as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season.

The sixth seeded Colonels (10-18, 9-9 OVC) will face third seeded Morehead State (19-10, 11-6 OVC) in the opening round of the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference tournament at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
