Women's Golf Fourth At Pinehurst

Freshman April Emerson is tied for 11th overall.

PINEHURST, N.C. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s golf team is fourth after the first round at the 15-team 2009 Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston. Freshman April Emerson led the Colonels and is tied for 11th overall after an opening round 74.

The 36-hole 2009 Pinehurst Challenge is being played at Pinehurst No. 6, a par-72, 5,994-yard course.

The College of Charleston leads after an opening round score of 291. Western Carolina (296) is second, followed by Morehead State (298). Eastern Kentucky (304) has a three shot lead over fifth place Wichita State (307). Appalachian State (308) and Jacksonville State (308) are tied for sixth.

Emerson is within four shots of the overall lead. Sophomores Linda Hogberg (76) and Taylor Church (76) are tied for 20th. Katie Wiedmar (78) is tied for 30th.

The final round of the Pinehurst Challenge will be held on Tuesday beginning at 8:45 a.m.
