Game Notes
RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will play its first home game of the 2009-10 season on Saturday. Tip-off against Florida Atlantic University is scheduled for 2 p.m. at McBrayer Arena. The game is believed to be the first collegiate head coaching match-up of two former Lady Colonel basketball players.
Former Lady Colonel
Chrissy Roberts (1996-98) will lead her EKU squad against former Lady Colonel Chancellor Dugan (1978-82) and her FAU team.
Fans that bring a canned food item to the game will receive free admission for their support of the 2009 Colonels Canned Food Drive. Also, EKU Athletics and Meijer will give two lucky fans at Saturday’s women’s basketball game vouchers that can be redeemed at Meijer for a Thanksgiving dinner for six.
Eastern Kentucky (0-2) is coming off a 65-44 loss at Wright State on Thursday. Lady Colonels shot 26.8 percent from the field, 11.1 percent (1-for-9) from behind the three-point arc, and finished with just two assists. Freshman
Alex Jones recorded her first collegiate double-digit rebound performance, finishing with 13 boards and five points. Lexington native
Brittany Coles led EKU with 13 points.
Florida Atlantic (1-2) has lost two straight since beginning the season with a 93-61 win over Webber International.
Dugan played for EKU from 1978 to 1982, scoring more than 800 points and grabbing more than 600 rebounds during her career. The Louisville, Ky., native earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Eastern in 1982.
She served as a high school head coach and a collegiate assistant coach for six years before returning to Eastern Kentucky in 1989 to serve as Larry Joe Inman’s assistant for two seasons. She left EKU for her first collegiate head coaching job at the University of Southern Indiana, where she spent eight seasons.
Dugan has been the head coach at Florida Atlantic for 10 years, leading the Owls to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2006. She’ll be facing her alma mater for the second time as a head coach. The Lady Colonels handed Dugan a 103-92 loss on Dec. 8, 2001 in Boca Raton.
