RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University head women's basketball coach
Greg Todd announced Thursday the promotion of
Chad Gibney to associate head coach after three seasons with the Colonels.
"Chad has been instrumental in the success we've built over the past three seasons, and this promotion to associate head coach is a reflection of the tremendous impact he's made on our program," Todd said. "He is one of the best coaches I've ever been around on the practice floor, with an exceptional ability to teach the game, develop players and build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes. Chad is also an elite recruiter whose work ethic and leadership continue to raise the standard for EKU women's basketball."
Gibney joined the Colonels as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator prior to the 2023-24 season and has helped lead the program through one of the most successful stretches in school history.
Since his arrival, EKU has recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in program history, finishing with 22 victories in 2023-24, 21 in 2024-25 and a school-record 25 wins in 2025-26.
The Colonels have also earned two national postseason appearances during Gibney's tenure, advancing to the WNIT in 2024 and the WBIT in 2026.
EKU improved more than 70 spots in the NCAA NET rankings during that span, finishing the 2025-26 season with a program-best No. 110 ranking, which ranked among the top 50 mid-major programs nationally.
Offensively, EKU has ranked among the NCAA's top 75 in scoring offense in each of the past three seasons, averaging 72.0 points per game over that stretch.
The Colonels have also finished among the top three in their conference in scoring offense each season with Gibney, producing three first-team all-conference selections and 10 total all-conference honorees.
"His success as a head coach before arriving at EKU and the experience he gained working alongside Gregg Marshall have helped shape him into an outstanding coach and leader," Todd said. "This promotion is well deserved, and I'm excited to see the continued impact he'll have on our program in this new role."
Before arriving in Richmond, Gibney spent one season as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure University before serving six seasons as head coach at Western Nebraska Community College. He compiled a 161-24 record with WNCC, led the Cougars to six consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances while earning four Region IX Coach of the Year honors.
A 2014 graduate of Wichita State University with a bachelor's degree in sport management, Gibney served as a student manager and graduate assistant for the men's basketball program under 2014 NABC, AP and Naismith National Coach of the Year Gregg Marshall.
