vs. Georgia State
ATLANTA, Ga. – Eastern Kentucky lost a pair of games on the first day of the Georgia State Tournament. The Colonels (1-5) lost 6-2 to Lipscomb and fell to Georgia State, 4-3, in extra innings.
Lipscomb (4-2) jumped out in front in the first inning on a two-run home run by Abby Keese. Keese doubled the LU lead with a two-run single in the third. The Lady Bisons added a pair of solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Amber Lenz got the Colonels on the board with a RBI single to left field in the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice fly by Lenz in the sixth scored EKU’s second run.
Sophomore
Stacye Toups (1-2) started and allowed four runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings for Eastern Kentucky. She struck out three and walked two.
In the second game, the two teams remained scoreless until the sixth inning. With a runner on,
Jena Handley connected on her second home run of the season in the top of the inning to put EKU in front 2-0. A pair of RBI singles by Georgia State in the bottom of the inning tied the score at 2-2.
The Colonels edged in front by a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Cassi Gibson, but GSU answered again in the bottom of the inning. The Panthers platted an unearned run to send the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Tiffany Bess drove in the game winner with a single to center field.
Brittany Mockbee started for EKU and pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Toups (1-3) came on in relief and allowed two unearned runs in two and one-thirds innings.
The Colonels will conclude the Georgia State Tournament with a pair of games on Sunday. Eastern face Georgetown at 10 a.m.
