RICHMOND, Ky. – Freshman
Nadja Barz’s three-set victory at No. 3 singles was the difference as the Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team edged Indiana State, 4-3, Sunday in the Greg Adams Tennis Center. With the win, the Colonels improve to 5-2 overall.
Three of the five singles matches went to a deciding third set. Indiana State won the top two matches, but Barz pulled off a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 come-back win over ISU’s Sofya Lifanova to clinch the team victory. Sophomore
Anouk Faure won a close match at No. 4 singles as she defeated Aleksandra Dzakula, 7-5, 6-4.
“I’m proud of how our team enjoyed the competition today,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “This was a very good match and we were fortunate they only had five players.”
Eastern Kentucky’s next match is Saturday, Feb. 14 against Southeastern Louisiana.
