LEXINGTON, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky lost to the University of Kentucky, 7-0, on Wednesday. The Wildcats (26-18) built a 3-0 lead in the third and then scored four times in the fourth to put the game away. The Colonels fall to 16-20 overall this season.
Rachel Riley got UK on the board in the second with a solo home run down the left field line. Molly Johnson added an RBI single later in the inning for a 2-0 lead. Samantha Demartine added an RBI single one inning later.
In the Wildcats big fourth inning, Brittany Cervantes launched a three-run homer over the left field fence.
In addition to her solo home run, Riley pitched a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and struck out six in seven innings. Cervantes finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three driven in. Johnson went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Shyenne Hussey (1-for-2) and
Erin Luther (1-for-2) each recorded a hit for EKU.
The Colonels will visit Southeast Missouri State for a three-game OVC series this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
