CHICAGO, Ill. – Eastern Kentucky lost its season opening match to Marquette, 3-0, on Friday at the Loyola Invitational in Chicago. Junior
Autumn Harms, who missed the entire 2008 season with an injury, led the Colonels (0-1) with eight kills. Ashley Beyer led the Golden Eagles (1-0) with eight kills.
Game scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18.

Toni Michalski contributed three blocks and one kill. Junior #Abby O’Connor# posted a match-high eight digs.
The Colonels hit .035 for the match, making 23 errors in 85 attacks. Marquette posted a .333 attack percentage, finishing with 37 kills and 11 errors in 78 attacks.
Eastern Kentucky scored the first two points of the third set and led 3-1 after a Marquette attack error. A kill by Snyder followed by another Golden Eagle attack error turned a one-point deficit into a one-point lead for the Colonels. A kill by Harms put EKU on top 11-10 and a service ace by the junior maintained a one-point lead, 13-12. Eastern led 15-14 before the Golden Eagles used an 11-3 run to conclude the match.
The Colonels’ continue play at the Loyola Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday. Eastern will face Loyola at 1:30 p.m., and will play Iowa at 6 p.m.
