RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will play three straight home games over the next two weekends, beginning with Cleveland State this Friday at 5:00 p.m.
The Colonels (1-3-0) fell at Cleveland State last year, 1-0, on a goal scored in the 81st minute. It was the first time the two teams had met.
The Colonel backline battled Cleveland State all match, but with only nine minutes remaining, Vikings forward Sylvia Olsby took a cross from the left side and punched a shot past EKU keeper
Stephanie Lynch.
Lynch played all 90 minutes of the match and recorded eight saves.
Cleveland State enters Friday’s match with a record of 1-2-0. The Vikings defeated Kent State, 2-1 (The Colonels fell to Kent State earlier this year, 2-1) but lost to Eastern Illinois, 2-1 (The Colonels defeated Eastern Illinois last year, 2-1).
EKU will host Winthrop on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., marking the first time the teams have met.
The Eagles were 8-10-2 last year and enter this weekend with a record of 0-1-1.
Through four games this year, EKU has been led offensively by senior forward
Lauren Imsande and sophomore midfielder
Heather Bruce. Imsande scored the game-winner in the Colonels’ shutout victory over SIU Edwardsville last Friday while Bruce scored a goal in the loss to Kent State and leads EKU with five shots, two of which have been on goal.
The Colonel defense, meanwhile, has stiffened up since the first weekend of the season as EKU allowed only one goal in two games last weekend. The defense is led by Lynch and senior
Maddy Shumaker and sophomore
Stephanie Murray, both of whom have played all 360 minutes of the season so far.
