BOX SCORE
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team fell to Morehead State, 2-1, in double overtime on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day at EKU Soccer Field. MSU striker Devin Jordan scored her second goal of the game with just minutes remaining to give the Eagles the sudden death victory.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 7-8-2 (4-4-0 OVC) on the season while the Eagles improve to 10-6-1 (7-0-1 OVC).
“It’s always a heartbreaker when you lose in overtime,” head coach
Lindsay Basalyga said. “But there were things we could’ve done earlier in the game to prevent it from even going into overtime.”
EKU jumped on the board first when, in the 27th minute, senior
Carly Muller beat the MSU defense, drew Eagle keeper Lily Meisner out of the goal and scored from 10 yards out. It was Muller’s fourth goal of the season and it made the score 1-0.
The Eagles responded with five minutes remaining in the first half, though, as Jordan headed in a score from the left side of the goal off a deep pass from Alex Pacitto to tie it up.
Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but a number of saves by Meisner and EKU senior keeper
Stephanie Lynch kept the game tied at 1-1.
With time ticking away in double overtime, however, Jordan struck again, this time heading in a goal off a deep pass from Sam Corman that won the game for MSU.
The game was evenly matched as MSU barely outshot EKU, 11-10. Muller led EKU with three shots, one of which was on goal. Senior
Courtney Nestor registered a team-high two shots on goal
The Colonels attempted six more corner kicks than the Eagles (8-2).
Lynch played the entire game and made five saves in the losing effort. Meisner recorded three stops for the Eagles.

The Colonels will play their regular season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they host Longwood in a non-conference matchup at 3:00 p.m. The OVC Tournament begins on Nov. 4.
“We’ve seen everyone in our conference and we know we can compete with them,” Basalyga said. “Now we have two weeks to prepare for the tournament and tap into another level of what it means to be an athlete.”
