Game Notes

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky will conclude its regular season schedule and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when Murray State visits McBrayer Arena. EKU will honor seniors Colette Cole and Sarah Fraser-Jones before the game, presented by Pattie A. Clay Hospital, begins at 4 p.m.

The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com. The game will also air live on television throughout Kentucky on Wazoo Sports Network, channel 305 on Time Warner Cable in Richmond.

The Lady Colonels can clinch the fourth seed in next week’s Ohio Valley Conference tournament with a victory over Murray State and a loss by Tennessee-Martin at Morehead State. Eastern (12-15, 8-9 OVC) has already doubled its number of conference victories from last season.

The top four seeds hosts first round tournament home games. The OVC final four will be held at Bridgestone Arena (formerly the Sommet Center) in Nashville, Tenn. Despite being picked to finish ninth in the OVC preseason poll, head coach Chrissy Roberts has her team tied for fourth place in the conference standings. Last season EKU did not qualify for the conference tournament.

This is the 78th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. EKU leads the all-time series 50-27. Murray State has won seven of the last nine games between the two teams. Eastern is 24-12 against MSU in Richmond.

In the first meeting between the two teams in early December, Eastern Kentucky snapped Murray State’s 21-game home court winning streak with a 58-54 win. MSU entered the game averaging 78.2 points per game and shooting 42.7 percent from the field. The Lady Colonels limited the Racers to 54 points and 26.2 percent shooting.

EKU freshman Alex Jones recorded her first collegiate double-double, finishing with 12 points and a game-best 14 rebounds. Junior Cherie White scored 10 points and made all six of her free throw attempts, including four in the final minute of play.

Eastern out-rebounded MSU 51-39. Kayla Vance led Murray State with 10 points off the bench.
