RICHMOND, Ky. – Following two road losses to Kansas and SIU Edwardsville last weekend, the Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will look to get back on track this weekend with games against Wright State and Valparaiso. The Colonels (1-3-0) will host Wright State on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then travel to Valparaiso on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. game.
“We’re excited to be back home for a Friday game,” head coach
Lindsay Basalyga said. “We’re excited to hopefully get back on a competitive track. Wright State and Valpo are quality teams and they’ll definitely test us and prepare us for our upcoming OVC schedule.”
EKU will try to rev up its offense this weekend as the Colonels were shut out in both outings last weekend. Seniors
Courtney Nestor and
Carly Muller have scored EKU’s only goals this season. Senior
Alex Raich has provided the lone assist.
To that end, a few lineup changes may be in store for this weekend. Friday’s potential lineup has senior
Stephanie Lynch in goal, junior
Stephanie Murray and sophomores
Katie Collar,
Deja Tennon and
Hayley Wright on the backline, Muller and freshmen
Tess Akgunduz and Kerry LeBrun at midfield and Raich and freshmen
Hillary Cooper and Nicole Donnelly up front.
Wright State enters this weekend with a record of 1-2-0. The Raiders picked up their first win of the season on the road at Middle Tennessee State last Friday, defeating the Blue Raiders 2-1. Morgan Butler scored the game-winner against MTSU.
The Colonels fell to Wright State, 3-0, in their only other meeting with the Raiders in 2006.
As of Thursday, Valpo has a record of 2-0-1, with wins over Eastern Illinois and Missouri-Kansas City. The Crusaders play IPFW Friday night at 6:00 p.m. Louisa Desario leads Valpo offensively with one goal, two assists and 17 shots.
This will be the first-ever meeting between EKU and Valpo.
