Lady Colonels Look For Two In A Row At Home On Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Fresh off a five-point victory over Austin Peay, the Eastern Kentucky will try to make it two in a row when Tennessee State visits McBrayer Arena on Saturday. The game, presented by State Farm, is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

EKU (5-14, 2-8 OVC) leads the all-time series with Tennessee State 31-15. However, the Lady Tigers have won six of the last seven meetings between the two teams. Eastern is 20-3 against TSU in games played in Richmond.

In Eastern’s last game, the Lady Colonels battled their way to a 61-56 victory over Austin Peay on Thursday. EKU out-rebounded the Lady Govs by one, got to the free throw line 11 more times and committed three fewer turnovers. Cherie White finished with a game-high 12 rebounds. Shakeyia Colyer scored a season-high 17 points, grabbed four boards, made four steals and had three assists.

EKU’s Alex Jones is ninth in the OVC in scoring (13.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (9.1 rpg). Reese Bass leads the OVC with a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio and is third with 4.1 assists per game. Brittany Coles is third in the OVC with 1.2 blocks per game.

Tennessee State (5-15, 2-8 OVC) enters Saturday’s game having lost six straight.

On Thursday, TSU shot 47 percent from the field, made 11 three-pointers and scored 82 points at Morehead State. However, a last second shot by the Eagles allowed MSU to escape with a two-point victory. Freshman Tayla Foster hit four treys and finished with 24 points for the Lady Tigers. Kesi Hess also made four three-pointers, finishing with 14 points. Morehead State out-scored TSU 44-28 in the paint.

Senior guard Meredith Stafford leads the team in scoring (11.3 ppg). Foster is close behind at 10.4 points per game. Alana Morris, a 5-foot-9 freshman guard, leads the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and assists (2.5 apg).
