RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky lost 78-69 to Tennessee Tech on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. The Golden Eagles made eight three-pointers, shot 49 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Lady Colonels by 10.
Alex Jones led EKU (4-10, 1-5 OVC) with her third straight double-double, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Briana Jordan and Kellie Cook led TTU (10-4, 4-1 OVC) with 15 points each.
Eastern Kentucky raced out to a 17-3 lead in part to three straight three-pointers and an old-fashioned three-point play.
Reese Bass got the three-point barrage going with a shot from the right wing.
Brittany Coles followed with one from the top of the key and
Marie Carpenter found the bottom of the basket from the right corner.
Jasmine Stovall capped the quick start with a driving lay-up and a free throw with 14:48 to play in the opening half.
Tennessee Tech responded with a 10-1 run to close the gap to 18-13. The Golden Eagles tied the score at 24-24 with 7:34 remaining in the first half. The lead changed hands five times and the score was tied three times the rest of the half. TTU took a 42-38 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a 15-4 run. Rachel Glidden’s three-pointer with 12:18 on the clock capped the run and gave TTU its largest lead of 15 points, 57-42. EKU got as close as seven four times in the final five minutes.
Eastern made 36 percent of its shots from the field, including 6-for-17 (35 percent) from three-point range.
The Lady Colonels will begin a stretch of four straight road games when they play at Eastern Illinois on Thursday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET.
