Gameday: Colonels Return to Action Thursday Against Austin Peay

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team returns to OVC action Thursday night with a home contest against Austin Peay. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.

Eastern Kentucky (7-6, 1-0 OVC) will be looking to move to 2-0 in conference action for just the second time in seven years under head coach Jeff Neubauer. The Colonels began the 2007-08 campaign with three straight OVC victories. Senior guard Jaron Jones led Eastern Kentucky with 16 points at Arkansas on Dec. 20. Jones has scored at least 10 points in 11 straight contests. He also tallied career highs in rebounds (nine) and assists (four) against the Razorbacks.

Austin Peay (3-10, 0-0), the OVC preseason favorite, faced a very challenging non-conference schedule that included games at California, Middle Tennessee State, Memphis, Lipscomb and Tennessee. However, the Governors picked up the program’s first-ever victory over Tennessee on Dec. 10 with a 74-70 upset in Knoxville. Senior guard TyShwan Edmondson averages a team-high 14.2 points per game.

The Colonels are 47-59 all-time against Austin Peay and 4-10 versus the Governors under head coach Jeff Neubauer. EKU was held to 51 and 52 points in two losses to APSU last season.
