Lady Colonels End Road Trip At OVC Leader Eastern Illinois

Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will conclude its two game road trip at Ohio Valley Conference leader Eastern Illinois on Monday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY 1340 AM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available on OVCSports.TV.

EKU stands at 11-11 overall and 6-5 in the OVC.  Eastern Illinois enters the game 19-4 on the season and a perfect 10-0 in league games.

In its last game, Eastern Kentucky couldn’t overcome a poor first half in a 64-53 loss at Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday.  EKU scored only 20 points in the first half while shooting 23 percent from the field, 22 percent from three-point range and getting out-rebounded by seven.

Marie Carpenter led Eastern with 17 points.  Jade Barber added 13 points and 19 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the season.

Monday’s game will be the 29th meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois.  The series is tied 14-14.  EIU has won eight straight and 11 of the last 12 against the Lady Colonels.  Four Lady Colonels have faced Eastern Illinois.  In two games against the Panthers, Carpenter has averaged 15.5 points per game.

Picked to finish third in the OVC preseason poll, Eastern Illinois is unbeaten in the conference and ranked No. 16 in the Mid-Major Top-25.  The Panthers have beaten eight of their 10 OVC opponents by 10 or more points and have five 20-plus point victories.

Ta`Kenya Nixon leads the team in scoring (14.7 ppg).  She also averages 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game.  Mariah King is averaging 13.5 points and a team-best 7.7 rebounds.

As a team, EIU scores 73 points per game while allowing 59 points.  The Panthers are shooting 43 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line.
