Lady Colonels Set to Host In-State Rival Morehead State on Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball wraps up its three-game Ohio Valley Conference homestand by hosting in-state rival Morehead State on Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena. Tip is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

EKU (8-6, 2-1 OVC) is fresh off a thrilling win over Eastern Illinois on Monday, as the Lady Colonels snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Panthers with a come-from-behind 63-62 win in front of the home crowd. Senior Jade Barber led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds, while senior Alex Jones recorded her 28th career double-double and senior Raechele Gray dropped a career-best 10 assists while committing zero turnovers.

As a team, EKU stifled Eastern Illinois, which came in as the top three-point shooting team in the conference, to just 22 percent (6-of-27) shooting from deep. The Lady Colonels now lead the league in three-point field goal percentage defense, as well as scoring defense, field goal percentage defense and blocked shots.

Morehead State lost nine of its first 10 games of the season, but the Eagles arrive in Richmond having won four of their last six, including a 75-72 victory over conference foe SIUE on Monday at home. Terrice Robinson leads Morehead State and ranks fourth in the OVC at 16.6 points-per-game.

Saturday’s game will mark the 83rd meeting between Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. The all-time series is dead even at 41-41.

Jones will also be playing in her 100th career game for EKU on Saturday. The Elizabethtown, Ky. native, who ranks 16th all-time at EKU in scoring (1,133) and fifth in rebounding (851), had a career game against Morehead State as a freshman, scoring 34 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in a 79-67 victory over the Eagles on Feb. 20, 2010.

Following Saturday’s game, the Lady Colonels take to the road to face Jacksonville State and Belmont next weekend.
