RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will go for its third consecutive win on Wednesday night when the Lady Colonels travel to face Longwood in Farmville, Va. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
EKU (5-5) earned a comeback win over Marshall, 64-55, on Dec. 3 and defeated Missouri State, 65-61, on Dec. 5 before taking last week off to focus on final exams.
Sophomore
Shelly Harper powered EKU past Missouri State, logging her second double-double of the season with career highs in both points (19) and rebounds (11). Harper converted 17 free throws in the win, the third-most in a single game in EKU history and the most since Kim Mays made 19 on Feb. 25, 1995.
Senior
Marie Carpenter scored 22 points in the win over Missouri State and now leads the Ohio Valley Conference and ranks 11th in the country at 23.1 points-per-game. Carpenter also ranks eighth in the country in three-pointers-per-game (3.6).
EKU leads the OVC in scoring defense (64.6 points-per-game) and rebounding margin (+2.8).
Longwood (3-5) has lost three consecutive games after falling to Savannah State, 79-55, at home on Dec. 15. Daeisha Brown paces the Lancer offense with 17.9 points-per-game.
EKU is 3-0 all-time versus Longwood. The Lady Colonels last defeated the Lancers, 80-62, on Jan. 25, 2012 at McBrayer Arena. Carpenter scored 18 points in that game as a sophomore.
Following Wednesday's game, EKU will open conference play by hosting in-state rival Murray State on Dec. 30 at McBrayer Arena.
