RICHMOND, Ky.
– The first-place Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will host Austin Peay in its final home game of the regular season on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Senior Day activities will be held prior to the game.

EKU (16-8, 10-3 OVC) took over the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference East Division with a 61-55 win over Tennessee Tech on Monday. With a win against Austin Peay on Saturday, the Lady Colonels will close the 2012-13 regular season with a 13-1 record at McBrayer Arena.

Senior Alex Jones grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds in the win over TTU. The Elizabethtown, Ky. native has now pulled down double-digit boards in nine straight games, and she enters Saturday’s contest four rebounds shy of passing Sandra Mukes for No. 2 on EKU’s career rebounds list and 28 rebounds shy of becoming only the second Lady Colonel ever to record 1,000 career points and rebounds.

Fellow senior Brittany Coles scored 15 points in Monday’s victory, leaving her 17 points shy of joining Jones in EKU’s prestigious 1,000 points club.

Junior Marie Carpenter scored a combined 41 points in the wins over TTU and Jacksonville State last weekend and now leads EKU at 13.1 points-per-game this season. Carpenter has connected on 31 of her last 32 free throws.

Austin Peay (7-18, 2-11 OVC) went on the road and defeated SIUE, 67-53, on Saturday before falling at OVC West leader Eastern Illinois, 88-59, on Monday. Meghan Bussabarger leads the Lady Govs with 12.8 points-per-game, while Leslie Martinez contributes 10.5 points-per-game and 6.9 rebounds-per-game.

EKU leads the all-time series over APSU, 45-29. The Lady Colonels defeated the Lady Govs, 61-59, in their last meeting in January of 2012. Senior Raechele Gray recorded a key steal in the waning seconds of that game to seal the win.

Following Saturday’s game, EKU has Monday off before travelling south to face Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State in the decisive final weekend of the regular season.
