RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team wrapped up its preseason camp at the Presnell practice facility Friday morning. With the start of classes on Monday, all practices will return to Roy Kidd Stadium. Below are some more news and notes from the past week …

--The Colonels will hold their second preseason scrimmage Saturday morning at Roy Kidd Stadium beginning around 10 a.m. The scrimmage is open to the public.

--The players were in helmets only Friday morning. Part of the practice focused on the two-minute drill. Both quarterbacks Jared McClain and Kyle Romano did an effective job of moving the offense with quick passes.

--Former Colonel and NFL player Chad Bratzke visited the team Thursday night and spoke about his time at EKU. Bratzke, who began his Eastern career as a walk-on in 1990, went on to become a two-time All-American in 1992 and 1993. He then played 10 years in the NFL with the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts.

--A few more players have shifted positions during the preseason. Senior Julio Geronimo has moved from offensive to defensive line. Sophomore Deno Montgomery is now lining up at wide receiver after spending last year at defensive back. Montgomery made an impressive deep-ball reception on a pass from freshman Barton Mann in a "7-on-7" drill Friday.

--Head strength and conditioning coach Jon-Michael Davis noted that Colonels had a very good summer of conditioning. Offensive lineman Justin Meredith broke the program's squat record earlier this summer by lifting 660 pounds.

EKU kicks off the 2013 schedule with a Thursday night home opener against Robert Morris on Aug. 29. This will mark the first season opener at home and on a Thursday night since 1993.
