Lady Colonels' Winning Streak Snapped at Tennessee State, 78-63

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell at Ohio Valley Conference East rival Tennessee State, 78-63, on Monday afternoon at the Gentry Center. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Lady Colonels.

EKU (11-7, 5-2 OVC) trailed by 13 points at halftime but opened the second half on a 14-4 run, as a jumper by sophomore Shelly Harper cut the deficit to three, 43-40, with 15:38 remaining in the game.

However, Tennessee State (8-13, 5-3 OVC)responded with a 12-0 run to make it 55-40 with 10:43 on the clock. The Lady Tigers led by double digits the rest of the way.

Four Lady Colonels scored in double figures in the loss. Senior Marie Carpenter led the way 18 points, sophomore Miranda Maples dropped a career-high 12 points, Harper finished with 10 points and freshman Michaela Hunter came off the bench to almost record a double-double (11 points, nine rebounds).

EKU shot just 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field. TSU, meanwhile, shot a much more efficient 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor.

Chelsea Hudson powered the Lady Tigers with a double-double (14 points, 14 rebounds).

EKU will now return home to host Southeast Missouri and UT Martin at McBrayer Arena this weekend.
