RICHMOND, Ky. – Sophomore
Sebastian Mueller won the deciding match at No. 5 singles to lead the Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over visiting Tennessee Tech Friday afternoon in the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The match was the OVC opener for both teams.
The Colonels (7-5, 1-0 OVC) trailed at one point in the team score, 3-1, before reeling off the final three matches on the court. Freshman
Ramon van Flymen kept Eastern alive with a pivotal 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles. Senior
Juanjo de la Llera easily won at No. 6 singles to set the stage for Mueller at No. 5.
Mueller split the first two sets against Tennessee Tech's (2-11, 0-1) Jorge Alfonzo, but won the first three games of the third set to take control of his match.
"Our depth is certainly a strength for us this year and hopefully this is a sign of things to come in tight matches," EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said. "We are also much improved in doubles and picking up the first point proved huge in this match."
