Meet Schedule
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team will open the outdoor season on Saturday at the Butler Bulldog Opener in Indianapolis.
Both the men's and women's teams recorded top-four finishes at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships in Charleston, Illinois in late February.
Senior
Ann Eason highlighted the meet for EKU. The 2015 OVC Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year ran away with the women's 5,000 meters on day one and then doubled up by winning the women's 3,000 meters on day two with a time of 9:53.42. The All-American and nine-time OVC individual champion is expected to redshirt the outdoor season, however.
Junior
Julie Mathisen and freshman
Carina Schrempf will have to step up in Eason's absence. Mathisen defended her mile title at this year's OVC Indoor Championships (4:57.93), while Schrempf exploded on the scene by winning the 800 meters at the indoor championships with a time of 2:11.75.
Although the women's team is losing the services of an All-American this outdoor season, the men's team is gaining the services of an All-American. Senior
Wade Meddles is back for his final season of eligibility. Meddles has not competed since last June, but he will look to find the form this season that made him a second team All-American in the outdoor 5,000 meters in 2012.
Meddles will be joined this spring by veterans such as senior
Ole Hesselbjerg, a two-time first team All-American steeplechaser, and junior
Amos Kosgey, who won the 3,000 meters at this year's OVC Indoor championships.
Saturday's meet will get started with field events at around 11:00 a.m. and should wrap up around 3:30 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
The track and field team will be back in action March 27-28 at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati.
