MOREHEAD, Ky. – Junior
Alex Álvaro won the clinching match at No. 1 singles to lift the Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team to a 4-3 win at Morehead State Tuesday afternoon.
"The thing that was most impressive about today's matches [men and women] is that we lost the doubles point in both, yet we were still able to fight back and get two important road wins," EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said.
After dropping a highly contested doubles point, Eastern (13-6, 6-1 OVC) quickly answered with wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to take a 3-1 lead. Álvaro finished the match with a victory over one of the top players in the OVC. Morehead State's Ritchie Kruunenberg came into today's match with a 5-1 record against league foes and defeated a nationally ranked opponent from Alabama this past weekend.
Eastern Kentucky wraps up its home schedule this Saturday, April 4 with a non-conference tilt against Butler.
