CHARLESTON, Ill. – Picked fifth in the preseason OVC poll, the Eastern Kentucky University men's tennis team capped a memorable regular season by winning a share of the league title thanks to a 6-1 win at Eastern Illinois Saturday afternoon.
EKU (16-7, 8-1 OVC) will be the No. 1 seed in next weekend's OVC Tournament. The Colonels earned the top seed due to their 4-3 win over co-champ Tennessee Tech on March 13. Eastern Kentucky will face either No. 4 Jacksonville State or No. 5 Belmont in Saturday's semifinals in Nashville, Tennessee.
"I'm glad to see that our guys were not over joyous today," EKU head coach
Rob Oertel said. "They all have the frame of mind that there is much more to accomplish if we are to consider this year a success."
Eastern Kentucky won four of the six singles matches in straight sets. Senior
Juanjo de la Llera (No. 6) finished the regular season with a team-best 7-1 record against league opponents.
Freshman
