RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team held its first spring practice of the 2015 season Monday morning at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The players went through the first of 15 official practices in helmets only and without contact.

Old faces, new places: A handful of returnees have been moved around the field in hopes of building a stronger team. Running back
JJ Jude will try his hands at safety this spring. Quarterback
Barton Mann has moved to the tight end spot. Senior
Deno Montgomery, who has played both defensive back and wide receiver as a Colonel, is back on the defensive side of the ball. Sophomore
Robby Irgang has shifted from defensive line to linebacker.

Quarterback competition: Three quarterbacks donned the green jerseys Monday – juniors
Bennie Coney and
Kyle Romano as well as redshirt freshman
Tyler Swafford. Coney split time with former Colonel Jared McClain in the fall. Romano spent the fall recovering from an injury while Swafford redshirted.

Scrimmages: The Colonels are slated to hold scrimmages on the Saturday mornings of April 11, April 18 and April 25. The spring game is set for Thursday night, April 30 at 7 p.m.
