WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The EKU men's tennis team continued its challenging spring schedule with dual matches against Western Michigan University and Purdue University on Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
 
The Colonels fell behind in Saturday's first match against the preseason Mid-American conference favorite, Western Michigan. The Broncos took the first two points in doubles to take an early 2-0 lead. After the Broncos clinched another point in singles play, the unceasing effort of Sebastian Mueller and Alex Álvaro nearly added points in favor of the Colonels. However, Western Michigan held on for the win.
 
The competition did not decline, as the Colonels squared off against Big Ten opponent Purdue University in Saturday's second match. Mueller and Diego Asis went the distance at No. 2 doubles, forcing a 7-5 decision in favor of the Boilermakers. Purdue's Lucas Dages and Gergely Madarasz topped the duo of Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan, as Purdue held a 2-0 lead heading into singles play.
 
The Boilermakers added to their lead on their way to a 4-0 win over the Colonels.
 
"All five teams we've played so far have been really good," head coach Rob Oertel said. "Tha'ts what I expected when I scheduled them. It's a good learning experience for us."
 
Eastern's taxing schedule continues next weekend, as the Colonels take on Liberty University and defending national champions, University of Virginia.
