RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU men's tennis team will look to secure its fifth and sixth consecutive wins, as it hosts Xavier University and the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
The Colonels (5-6, 0-0 OVC) regrouped after facing some of the nation's top teams to open the season, rallying to four consecutive wins—all of which came in Richmond.
EKU defeated third ranked Lindsey Wilson College last Friday, 7-0, before logging another commanding 7-0 win over 22nd ranked Cumberland University (Tenn.) later that day.
Senior Alex Álvaro topped 30th ranked Denis Porcic of Lindsey Wilson College, before taking down Cumberland's Thiago Lopes in Friday's second match. Álvaro posted two wins in doubles play last week, including a win with teammate
Ramon van Flymen in their first match as the 58th ranked duo in the country. Álvaro earned Ohio Valley Conference Male Tennis Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts.
Xavier University (4-1, 0-0 Big East) enters Richmond after winning its last four matches, including a 5-2 win over Ball State last week.
The University of the Cumberlands (2-0,0-0 MSC) has wins over Bellarmine University and Lincoln Memorial University this season.
Friday's first match is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the second match slated for 6 p.m. at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
