RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team will host Xavier in its home opener on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

- EKU (0-1-0) pulled to within a goal of defending Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion Ball State with less than 20 minutes to play, but the host Cardinals got a late insurance goal to pull away and beat the Colonels, 3-1, in Friday's season opener.
- Junior
Jordan Foster scored the Colonels' first goal of 2016 in the 69
th minute versus Ball State. Foster led EKU with 33 shots last season.
- Two freshmen –
Marian Wolski and
Sam Eastes – made their first-career starts at Ball State, while three more –
Kayla Childs,
Larissa Heslop and
Erin Torrence – played significant minutes off the bench. Wolski played all 90 minutes in the game.
- EKU was picked to finish 10
th out of 11 teams in the OVC this season. The Colonels went 4-14 (4-6 OVC) last season, finished seventh in the OVC standings and just missed out on the conference tournament for the third consecutive year; however, Eastern won three of its last five games and did not allow more than one goal in any of its last six games.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Xavier defeated Evansville, 2-0, in its season opener on Friday night in Cincinnati. Courtney Kobashigawa and Maddie Tierney scored for the Musketeers.
- XU went 8-9-1 (3-6-0 Big East) last season and finished seventh in the Big East.
- Xavier leads the all-time series against EKU, 4-1-1. The Colonels' lone win against the Musketeers came in 2010. The last time the two teams met at EKU Soccer Field, they played to a scoreless draw.
